WHEN A BAD DREAM BECOMES A NIGHTMARE Vietnam, 1971. The war rages on, like a bad dream that refuses to end. John Converse (Michael Moriarty) who has been covering hostilities as a news correspondent, is going back to the States. Before he leaves he wants to make a big score - something to compensate for all the years he wasted in the horrors of the war; for his failing health, and for his lost ideals. What he does is buy tow huge kilograms of heroin to sell for a huge profit back home. He has it smuggled back to his wife (Tuesday Weld) by Ray Hicks (Nick Nolte) a soldier friend, who is going on leave. But Hicks, arriving at her home, is pounced on by two thugs whose corrupt CIA boss wants to market the stuff himself. Hicks, though an unwilling participant in Converse's scheme, feels bound to defend his friend's investment. How he does so forms the suspenseful content of this tough, no-holds-barred drama which no lover of action and excitement should miss. © United Artists Corp
