Magnificent Seven, The (widescreen)

"We deal in lead, my friend", clamly advises Steve McQueen as Vin in this rousing Western directed by John Sturges in his adaptation of Akira Kurosawa's, The Seven Samurai. A brilliantly inspired piece of film-making starring Yul Brynner as the leader of a group of skilled gunfighters hired to protect a poor Mexican village from marauding bandits led by the vicious Calvera, played with ruthless delight by Eli Wallach. Fighting alongside were many whose starring film careers were launched by this picture, including Charles Bronson, James Coburn and Robert Vaughn. With its now-classic musical score by Elmer Bernstein and stunning cinematography, the film set new standards for generations of Western's to come.
