"Sugarland Express" is an hilarious and exciting thriller about a young couple who tangle with the law in an effort to avoid the legal loss of their infant son. On discovering their child is to be adopted, Lou Polin, a dizzy Texas girl played by Goldie Hawn, helps her husband, Clovis, to escape from an open prison so that they can make a quick dash to Sugarland and claim their child back. The trip, however, does not go as planned. Incident piles upon incident as the couple speed across Texas in a hijacked police car using their police hostage to bargain for what they want, until they reach Sugarland. Based on a real life event that happened in 1969, it is brilliantly directed by Stephen Spielberg and the beginning of his critical acclaim. Sugarland Express won the Best Screenplay of the Year Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1974, and has a musical score by John Williams.
