THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL is one of the world cinema's most entertaining historical adventure romances and is based on the much-loved novel by Baroness Orczy. Starring LESLIE HOWARD as Sir Percy Blakeney/alias The Scarlet Pimpernel, the action takes place against the dramatic backdrop of the French Revolution. As Sir Blakeney, he takes on the role of the most ineffectual society fop to hide his true identity as the dashing adventurer who saves French aristocrats from the death by the guillotine. RAYMOND MASSEY stars as Chauvelin, the French Republic's cunning and dangerous Ambassador to England who is bent on unmasking Sir Blakeney. Unfortunately, Blakeney's beautiful French-born wife, Marguerite (MERLE OBERON) is not aware of his secert and despises him for his languid airs and self-indulgences and when Chauvelin captures her brother, Marguerite is forced to betray the Pimpernel.
In the meantime, Sir Blakeney has left for France on another rescue mission. Marguerite learns of her husband's true identity and follows him to France to warn him. Can she reach him in time to save his life?
