John Thaw stars as Detective Inspector Jack Regan of The Flying Squad. In the film which was the forerunner of the highly acclaimed series 'The Sweeney' . Jack Regan is a good copper, but his tough, intuitive style is becoming unfashionable in a Scotland Yard seeking a new, technocratic image.

When a young policeman is mysteriously murdered, Regan, with his partner Det. Sergeant Carter (Dennis Waterman), break all the rules to find the killer, but they find there are men in The Flying Squad equally prepared to break them.
