The bitter and savage conflict of the war in vietnam forms the thrilling background to this passionate and moving romantic drama which boasts two ine central peformances by Ken Wahl and Cheyl Ladd. Wahl, playing a United States Navy surgeon attached to the Marine Corps, meets beautiful Navy nurse Deborah Solomon (Cheryl Ladd), and the couple are immediately attracted to each other. As their moving romance deepens, they find themselves trapped in an emotional crossfire hindered by their commitment to duty. In order to continue seeing Deborah, Don puts his life on the line by striking a bargain with an unrelenting commanding officer in exchange for a few precious hours of happiness and the compelling drama intensifies as the film moves with heart-stopping suspense towrads its climax and stunning conclusion.
Director Sidney J. Furie strikes a perfect balance between the tender love story and the brilliantly recreated horrors of the bloody war in telling this superb story of a grand passion played out in the ever-present shadow of violent death.
