The thought of holiday travel drives most people to despair. Some people are merely delayed. Some are completely re-routed. But if you are really unlucky-you get Del Griffith. Neal Page (Steve Martin) a successful, urbane advertising executive is on his way home from New York to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with his family. He is unfortunate enough to be seated next to Del Griffith (John Candy), a shower curtain ring salesman. When a snow storm causes the flight to be re-routed, Neal finds himself trapped in the hysterical nightmare of Del's determination to be helpful.
