Who would have thought retirement would be so chaotic? Certainly not the querlous Victor Meldrew (Richard Wilson), one of suburbia's perennial complainers, or his long suffering wife Margaret (Annette Crosbie). But there's one thing to remember in the Meldrew household - whatever can go wrong does and it usually spells disaster for Victor... The Man Who Blew Away Terrorised by their neighbour's children and next door's party - Victor's weekend was a write-off long before the door bell rang. Mr Foskett, who they met on a holiday ten years ago, was 'just in the neighbourhood', and he has a tale to tell. The Affair of the Hollow Lady Victor thinks the lady greengrocer's is wrapping his vegetables in a suggestive manner. Getting his own back on the locksmith distracts him however, until one day he's offered a spin in the vegetable van... Hole in the Sky Victor's reacreations reach new depths when he turns to fish cookery for entertainment - and causes the road to be dug up in search of a gas leak. All this and a builder with a taste for practical jokes is proving too much for Margaret to bear.
