Unable to have children, Michael (James Woods) and Linda (Glenn Close) have endured everything from the pain of watching their friends raise children to the humiliation of repeated medical tests. The prize for their patience comes in the shape of pregnant teenager Lucy Moore (Mary Stuart Masterson). Too young for parenthood and too broke to raise a child, Lucy and her boyfriend Sam (Kevin Dillon) agree to the Spectors adopting their unborn child.
It seems like the perfect arrangement. Too perfect... As the birth draws nearer, Lucy's doubts grow more intense. A mother's ultimate sacifice and a childless couple's ultimate happiness are in balance... There can only be one outcome.
