This widely acclaimed record from the 1976 Olympic Equestrian Games in Montreal captures all the thrills of three-day eventing, the precision of dressage, and the excitement of showjumping. This dramatic film is unlike any previous equestrian Olympic production. For the first time film cameras are mounted under the cross-country fences to bring outstanding action shots of the world's leading Olympic riders demonstrating their remarkable skills of horsemanship. Richard Meade, the individual and team three-day event gold medallist of the 1972 Munich Olympics, has written and narrated the commentary which is brought vividly to life by the comments of other leading competitors. The film opens with superb coverage of the dressage. Special care has been taken to illustrate the 20 simple movements which make up the test - a demonstration of the horse's obedience, suppleness and impulsion as well as the rider's accuracy, balance, and rhythm in cooperation with the horse. The spectacular endurance competition was covered by a team of 20 top sports cameramen, many of them members of the official film teams in Mexico and Munich. The positioning of the high-speed cameras was done only after consultation with the course director and the FEl technical delegate to ensure the competition is seen from the best vantage points. The film sets out to demonstrate fully the problems presented to horse and rider by the daunting obstacles and varying terrain. Following the dramatic action coverage of the endurance test, the film concludes with exciting highlights of the stadium jumping, and the medal ceremony. A British Equestrian Promotions Film.
