The Devil's Widow

She drained them... of their lives! As in the original ballad young Tom and Janet (the Vicar's daughter) are fated to meet each other and fall in love. The setting for their affair has been predetermined and their love is consummated. Tom is still held in thrall by Devil's Widow but his vows are cast with Janet. Every seven years a young man is sacrificed and the "tithe to hell" is paid. Terrified he goes to Mrs. Cazaret and pleas for his freedom, but she scoffs it off and succeeds in drawing him further into her web. Her love finally turns to hate and she gives him a week's truce while vowing to hunt him down and kill him.
