To celebrate 25 years of classic comic manoeuvers, the very first three episodes of Dad's Army ever transmitted march on to BBC Video. It's 1940 and one of the most significant events of the Second World War is about to take place! . . .the forming of the regiment of The Local Defence Volunteers! So fix your bayonets, grab your gas masks - it's time to meet England's very own, all original non combatants... THE MAN OF THE HOUR The Nazi war machine is pushing its terrible way across Europe and rumours of German parachautist saboteurs are rife. The PM formulates a plan - the regiment of Local Defence Volunteers must be recruited to protect England from invasion. Cue one Captain Mainwaring - the local bank manager - and a faithful band of earnest volunteers... MUSEUM PIECE The men are in strict training but with one shot gun and fifteen carving knives between them, they're hardly in the best position to counteract a German invasion! Then the curator of the Peabody Museum of Historical Army Weapons leaves his job to join the Navy... COMMAND DECISION On the sea and in the air, the struggle continues and it's not just the allied troops who are having problems! With the shortage of arms continuing it seems Fraser's catapult is the only serious threat to the Germans! Then Colonel Square arrives with an offer of 20 riffles. All Captain Mainwaring has to do is surrender the leadership of the platoon in return...
