In the Wild West you either grew up fast or didn't live to get the chance. This sage piece of wisdom came home to roost for Wil Anderson when he was forced to hire 11 young boys to help drive his cattle to the rail head at Belle Fourch, 400 miles away. The crusty old rancher soon realises he's become a surrogate father to a bunch of wet-behind-the-ear schoolboys. Before too long the boys have been initiated into the more dubious pleasures of growing-up, namely prostitutes and whiskey!

But when they come face to face with Long Hair (Bruce Dern) and his band of rustlers their journey towards manhood takes an unexpected and savage detour. . . John Wayne, The Duke, is at his gun-smoking best in this rugged and moving Western.
