In her first performance since "The Color Purple", Whoopi Goldberg is a witty, and wise Jamaican housemaid who has a marked influence on a young boy's life. David Hart turns to Clara Mayfield for kindness and affection when faced with the harsh reality of his parents' impending divorce. They become the unlikliest of friends, despite their dramatically different backgrounds because what they share is greater than what divides them. For Clara's heart was once broken too.
