Big Wednesday

Sleeve Sypnosis:
THE ULTIMATE WAVE. . .HE MUST PROVE THAT HE IS STILL THE BEST
Set between 1962 and 1974, Big Wednesday is the story of three surfing buddies, Matt, Jack and Leroy. It tells of their fights, their loves and the hero-worship that follows them as they conquer the foam. The South Swell 1962: Matt, Jack and Leroy rule the waves-they get drunk, go on rumbustious joyrides and hold destructive parties.
When the boys are called up to serve in Vietnam, Matt and Leroy evade the draft, but Jack submits voluntarily. As the years pass, the war takes its toll (not only on the battlefield), and their ebullience dims. Matt, who cleans swimming-pools, has sobered up and now lives with his wife and child. The cafe where they used to hang out has been taken over by hippies.
Matt is reminded of his lost youth, when he sees a clip of himself surfing. Jack returns home as a heavily decorated sergeant, to find his girlfriend married to an older man. The Great Swell 1974: Re-united with Leroy, they decide to make one last attempt on the great swell. Directed by John Millius, Big Wednesday cleverly encapsulates the emotions of passing youth against the splendour of the sea and the breathtaking skills of surfers.
