The first 3 episodes of the hard-hitting BAFTA award winning police drama starring Neil Pearson Detective Superintendent Tony Clark steps over to the dark world of internal investigations.... CIB: the police for the police. Loathed by fellow officers and treated with suspicion by the public, theirs is a grey world of corruption and one that leaves rising star Superintendent Tony Clark cold. Reluctantly involved in the beginning, he finds that now there is no going back. As the taste of his promotion turns sour, he finds himself well and truly caught between the lines.... Private Enterprise "What? Infiltrate my own nick?" "Your're either in or you're out...And if we find you're having us over backwards, Tony, we'll do your legs like a steamroller." The head of CID at Mulberry Street Station, Detective Chief Inspector Tony Clark, is confident that his new posting as superintendent with the Flying Squad will soon be confirmed; a move that will be good for his career and his complicated private life. But when a lowlife, drugs pusher-come-snout called Andy Spence starts stirring up some pretty heavy accusations of corruption at senior levels in his nick, he finds himself in a compromising position on all fronts... Out Of The Game When a young petty offender is shot down by the police in broad daylight on a local estate armed only with a replica gun, the press have a field day. On the surface, it's a straightfoward case for CIB but Clark just can't let go. Just why was vernon outside his ex-girlfriend's flat with a gun?. Could there be a connection with his older, altogerther more dangerous, brother Michael? Meanwhile, someone is fanning the flames of unrest on the estate... Words Of Advice What with his first prosecution case coming up without his star witness, his obsession for WPC Jenny Dean out of control and his constant dodging of his wife's suspicions, life is stressful for Clark. A sexual harassment case brought by a white WPC against a black sergeant in an already racially sensitive area, is just the icing on the cake. Did Sergeant Jones really assault Gillian Tate or was it just an affair that went sour? As Chief Inspector Deakin says, he wouldn't be the first or the last to go over the side, would he? As tensions mount at home, Tony finds that he is not in a position to cast the first stone... © BBC/Island World Production
